The Last Goodnight

Bio:The Last Goodnight makes its major label debut with Poison Kiss, which was released by Capitol Music Group on August 28th. On Poison Kiss, the Connecticut-based band captures the vagaries of life and love through a kaleidoscope of rock, pop, jazz, folk and soul influences that coalesce in an exquisitely nuanced work that is, by turns, shimmering and shattering.

The achingly beautiful lead single “Pictures of You” exemplifies the band’s gift for getting to the heart of the matter. “’Pictures of You’ is for everyone in life who’s ever missed out on an opportunity and wonders what might have been,” says John. “It’s about the feeling you get looking at an old picture of yourself.”

“Poison Kiss” sets the tone for the album and also unwittingly gave the band its name. Initially known as Renata, the band released two successful independent albums, which garnered awards from the Hartford Advocate and caught the attention of 96.5 TIC-FM, one of Connecticut’s largest radio stations, which added the band’s songs into rotation and had them play at numerous shows, opening for artists such as Lifehouse, Avril Lavigne and Tyler Hilton. Along the way, the band members tired of the name. “Nobody could get it right, they’d mispronounce it, think it was a cheese or an Italian restaurant in SoHo,” recalls John wryly. While recording “Poison Kiss,” a phrase from the chorus struck the group as a more fitting name – and Renata became The Last Goodnight.
